ELECTROSURGERY
INTRODUCTION
Dr. Septon has treated you skin lesions with electrosurgery. S/he has determined that your skin lesion is located in the upper region of the skin and has removed it using a surgical instrument. Following this s/he has used an electric needle on the surgical site to control bleeding.
Electrosurgery results in a crust at the treatment site. Over the next several days, new skin will grow in from the edges. The crust will gradually be replaced by this new skin. How fast this occurs depends on the size and location of the lesion in addition to other factors. The new skin is often pink.
The area treated by electrosurgery may be permanently thickened or depressed. Electrosurgery may also result in the treated area being either lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. These results vary from peson to person as well as with the location of the lesion.
AFTER CARE
You have been given samples of antibiotic ointment (usually Bacitracin) and adhesive dressings. Tomorrow, cleanse the area gently with either hydrogen peroxide or mild soap and water and apply ointment and a fresh dressing. Continue this care once or twice daily. After a few days, you can leave the treated area open at night and only use a dressing and ointment during the day. You can buy more of the antibiotic ointment and suitable dressings if necessary without a prescription at your local pharmacy.
It is normal to see a few drops of blood on the bandage for the first few days. If there is more bleeding, apply firm pressure with a cotton ball or gauze pad for 30-45 minutes and then apply fresh ointment and bandage. Ice applied to the area will also slow bleeding. As the lesion heals,. There may be some yellow crusting or a rim of redness. This is normal. The topical antibiotic ointment is usually sufficient to control these.
Usually if your wound is small and in an area of low skin tension, you may resume regular activities and exercise immediately. If the wound is very large or in an area of high skin tension, you may resume your regular routine within a few days. Regardless, we suggest that you wait at least two days before swimming and keep the area bandaged while swimming. You should also keep the wound covered if the area may have contact with chemicals, such as for household cleaning, or if you are in a very dusty environment, such as while playing outdoor sports.
PAIN
After electrosurgery, there is usually little pain. The nerve fiber tips have been singed and do not perceive pain until they heal. Non-prescription painkillers are usually sufficient. In the first 24 hours, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is preferred. The appropriate dose is listed on the bottle. After 24 hours, you can switch to aspirin, ibuprofen, or a similar medication. Take as directed on he bottle.
OF COURSE, DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATION TO WHICH YOU ARE ALLERGIC.

INTRODUCCION
El/la Dr. Septon trato las lesiones en su piel con electro-cirujia. El/la Dr. Septon determino que las lesiones en su piel se encontraban en la parte superior de la piel y entonces las removio usando un instrumento quirurgico. Despues de remover las lesiones, el/la Dr. Septon uso una
aguja electrica en el area afectada por la cirujia para controlar el desangramiento.
La electro-cirujia crea una costra sobre el area en el que se lleva acabo el tratamiento. Como pasen los dias, usted vera como nueva piel crecera por las orillas. La costra eventualmente sera reemplazada por piel nueva. Que tan rapido pase esto depende de el tamano y area en que se encuentre la lesion. La piel nueva es, por lo general, de color rosa.
Puede ser que el area al que se aplico la electro-cirujia se quede crueso o hundido permanentemente. La electro-cirujia tambien puede hacer que el area tratada quede de un color mas ligero o fuerte que el color de la piel alrededor. Estos resultados varian de persona en
persona asi como de el lugar en donde se encontraba la lesion.
CUIDADO DESPUES DEL TRATAMIENTO
A usted se le han dado muestras de un unguento antibiotico (generalmente es Bacitracin) y vendas adehsivas. Manana, limpie con cuidad el area tratada con hidrogeno de peroxido o un jabon suave y agua. Despues aplique el unguento antibiotico y cubra el area con una venda. Siga este cuidado dos veces al dia. Despues de unos dias usted podra dejar el area tratada sin cubrir durante la noche pero siga con el cuidado durante el dia. Usted puede comprar mas unguento antibiotico y vendas en la farmacia.
Es normal que aparezcan gotas de sangre en la venda durante los primeros dias. Si hay mas sangre, aplique presion con algodon durante 30-45 minutos y luego aplique unguento antibotico y cubra el area con una venda. Hielo aplicado al area tambien hace que el desangramiento pare.
Conforme se vaya curando la lesion, usted vera como se forma una costra amarilla con una orilla roja. Esto es normal. El unguento antibiotico controla este sintoma para que no se infecte.
Si su lesion es pequena y la piel en la que se encuentra no tiene mucha tension, usted podra volver a sus actividades regulares y ejercicio inmediatamente. Si la lesion es grande y/o se encuentra en una area en que la piel tiene alta tension, usted podra volver a sus actividades
normales unos dias despues del tratamiento. No importa que tipo de lesion tenga usted, le sugerimos que espere por lo menos dos dias antes de volver a nadar y mantenga la lesion cubierta mientras nade. Usted tambien debe de mantener la lesion cubierta cuando pueda tener contacto
con quimicos, tal como los que se usan para el quehacer de la casa o si usted se encuntra en una area con mucho polvo, asi como cuando hace algun deporte al exterior.
DOLOR
Por lo general hay muy poco dolor despues de la electro-cirujia. Las puntas de los nervios han sido quemadas y estas no sienten hasta que se hallan curado. Medicinas que no requieren receta, asi como el acetaminophen (Tylenol) son recomendadas las primeras 24 horas y son suficientes para controlar el dolor. La dosis apropriada esta escrita en la botella de la medicina. Despues de las primeras 24 horas usted puede tomar aspirina, ibuprofen o cualquier otra medicina similar.
Porfavor tome la medicina como se le indica.
