BLISTER JUICE THERAPY
INTRODUCTION
Dr. Septon has treated your skin lesions with blister juice (cantharidin) . This substance is extracted from a beetle found in Africa. Your lesion is in the upper layer of the skin. Application of the juice causes the upper layer of the skin to form a blister. This blister separates the lesion from the lower layers of the skin. The size of the blister is variable. The longer the juice is on the skin, the more blistering will occur. THEREFORE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO WASH OFF THE MEDICATION IN __________ HOURS WITH SOAP AND WATER. If allowed to remain on the skin longer than directed, a larger than necessary blister may result. If there is pain before this amount of time, you may wash off the blister juice sooner. Sometimes treated areas do not blister at all for a number of reasons. Dr. Septon may choose to re-treat those areas at a follow-up appointment.
Often there is some bleeding into the blister. Therefore, it is common for the blister to be a purple-red color. There may be a small rim of redness and perhaps some yellow material on the open skin as it is healing. This should be gently cleaned off as described below. In a few days, new skin will begin to form under the blister. When this is complete. The blister should dry up and fall off. The new skin is often pink. When healed, blister juice-treated skin may be discolored.
AFTER CARE
As stated above, the blister juice must be washed off gently with soap and water in _______ hours.
You have been given samples of antibiotic ointment (usually Bacitracin) and adhesive dressings. After washing the blister juice off, begin applying the ointment. If needed, a dressing can be applied over it. Tomorrow, cleanse the area with hydrogen peroxide or mild soap and water and reapply ointment. Bandages are optional. Continue this care until the blister falls off and new skin covers the treated areas. You can buy more of the antibiotic ointment (and suitable dressings, of necessary) without a prescription at a local pharmacy.
If the blister becomes large or painful, you can drain it. The blister does not contain any pain fibers. Therefore you can prick it to let the fluid escape. Sterilize a needle in rubbing alcohol or a flame. Gently prick the blister without removing the blister roof. The blister will now be loose and soft. Try to leave it in place, as it protects the delicate skin beneath.
PAIN
After blister juice treatment, .there is usually little pain. Non-prescription painkillers are usually sufficient. In the first 24 hours, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is preferred. The appropriate dose is listed on the bottle. After 24 hours, you can switch to aspirin, ibuprofen, or a similar medication. Take as directed on the bottle.
OF COURSE, DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATION TO WHICH YOU ARE ALLERGIC.

TERAPIA CON JUGO DE AMPOLLA
INTRODUCCION
El/la Dr. Septon trato las lesiones sobre su piel con jugo de ampolla (cantharidin). Esta sustancia es sacada de un insecto que se encuentra en Africa. Su lesion se encuentra en la capa superior de la piel. La aplicacion de este jugo sobre la piel hace que se forme, en la capa superior de la piel, una ampolla. Este liquido separa la lesion de las capas inferiores de la piel. El tamano de la amplolla varia dependiendo de cuanto tiempo se quede el liquido sobre la piel. Entre mas tiempo pase el liquido sobre la piel, mas ampollas le saldran. POR ESO EN MUY IMPORTANTE QUE USTED SE LAVE EL AREA TRATADA EN _________ HORAS CON AGUA Y JABON. Si usted deja el jugo de ampolla sobre la piel mas tiempo del indicado, se formara una ampolla mas grande de la que se necesita. Si usted tiene dolor antes del tiempo que se le indica para lavarse el jugo de ampolla, porfavor lavese la zona tratada para quitar el jugo de ampolla. A veces no se crea una ampolla en la area sobre la cual se coloco el jugo de ampolla. En estos casos podria ser que el/la Dr. Septon vuelva a tratar el area afectada durante otra cita.
Es comun que se haya un poco de sangre dentro de la ampolla y por eso las ampollas tienden a ser de un color morado-rojizo. Puede que tambien se cree una orilla roja y una costra amarilla sobre la piel viva mientras esta se cura. En unos dias piel nueva empezara a formarse debajo de la ampolla. Cuando este proceso termine, la ampolla se caera sola. Es probable que el area que fue tratada este un poco descolorida.
CUIDADO DESPUES DEL TRATAMIENTO
Como dice en el primer parrafo, usted tiene que lavar el area donde se aplico el liquido con agua y jabon dentro de _________ horas.
A usted se le han dado muestras de un unguento antibiotico (generalmente es Bacitracin) y vendas adehsivas. Manana, limpie con cuidad el area tratada con hidrogeno de peroxido o un jabon suave y agua. Despues aplique el unguento antibiotico y cubra el area con una venda. Siga este cuidado dos veces al dia. Despues de unos dias usted podra dejar el area tratada sin cubrir durante la noche pero siga con el cuidado durante el dia. Usted puede comprar mas unguento antibiotico y vendas en la farmacia.
Si la ampolla se vuelve muy grande o dolorosa, used puede drenara. La ampolla no contiene fibras dolorosas asi que usted puede picarla con una aguja para dejar que el agua que se encuentra por dentro escape. Antes de picar la ampolla asegurese de esterilizar la aguja con alcohol o con lumbre. Muy cuidadosamente pique la ampolla sin quitar la piel. Una vez que drene, la ampolla estara suave. Por favor trate de dejarla asi pues la piel de la ampolla cuida la piel viva que se encuentra debajo.
DOLOR
Por lo general hay muy poco dolor despues. Medicinas que no requieren receta, asi como el
acetaminophen (Tylenol) son recomendadas las primeras 24 horas y son suficientes para controlar el dolor. La dosis apropriada esta escrita en la botella de la medicina. Despues de las primeras 24 horas usted puede tomar aspirina, ibuprofen o cualquier otra medicina similar. Por favor tome la medicina como se le indica.
